Investment Analyst I
The Kern County Employees’ Retirement Association (KCERA) is seeking a highly motivated and talented professional to join our Investment Team as an Investment Analyst I. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the management of KCERA’s $6.5 billion diversified portfolio, which supports the retirement security of Kern County’s employees and retirees.
The Investment Analyst I is the entry-level position in KCERA’s three-tier Investment Analyst series, reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer. Analysts play an integral role in advancing KCERA’s strategic investment initiatives by:
Conducting investment research and analysis across global asset classes.
Collaborating with internal staff, external consultants, and investment managers.
Contributing to the oversight and monitoring of a highly diversified institutional portfolio.
This role offers a front-row seat to institutional investing and the chance to grow within a respected public pension system. As part of KCERA’s Investment Team, you will work in a dynamic environment with exposure to both traditional and alternative investments, while developing skills and experience to advance in the Investment Analyst career path.

Examination Schedule:
Written Exam: will be conducted on October 15, 2025
Examinations:
Written Exam: (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's knowledge of the principles and practices of institutional investment management; financial analysis and modeling; the principals of modern portfolio theory, portfolio management, risk management, investment analysis, and quantitative and statistical methods; defined benefit pension administration; and actuarial methods.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a written exam.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a closely related field.
Possession of, or progress toward, a master's degree in Business Administration or a closely related field, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation is desirable.
Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.
