Company Overview
The ISMRM is an international, nonprofit, professional association devoted to the promotion of research and education in all applications of magnetic resonance in medicine and biology. Its 9,000+ members include clinicians, physicists, engineers, biochemists, and technologists. The ISMRM is, at present, the only worldwide professional association that combines these multiple disciplines in order to best serve medicine and science. Membership is drawn from universities, hospitals, research institutions, government research laboratories, and the imaging, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries from 65+ countries around the world. In addition to its large scientific meetings, the Society holds workshops and publishes two journals, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It also sponsors study groups on specific areas of scientific interest and chapters based on geographical location. A subsidiary, the Section for Magnetic Resonance Technologists (SMRT), was founded to provide a forum for education, information, and research in the field of magnetic resonance with the primary objective of advancing the education and training for MRI/S technologists worldwide.
Based in Concord, California, USA, incorporated as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit society, the ISMRM and its subsidiary are governed by a 25-member Board of Directors. The ISMRM Web site address is http://www.ismrm.org.
Company History
On January 1, 1994, the Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging merged to form the Society of Magnetic Resonance (now named the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine). The first annual meeting of the merged Society was held in Dallas, Texas, USA, in March 1994. The most recent annual meeting was held in Toronto, Ontario, CAN, May 30 - June 5, 2015.
The merged International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine is an international, nonprofit, scientific association whose purpose is to promote communication, research, development, and applications in the field of magnetic resonance in medicine and biology and other related topics and to develop and provide channels and facilities for continuing education in the field. Its multidisciplinary membership of over 6,000 consists of clinicians, physicists, engineers, biochemists, and technologists.
In addition to its large scientific meetings, the Society holds workshops and publishes two journals, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and a newsletter, MR Pulse. It also sponsors study groups on specific areas of scientific interest and chapters based on geographical location.
